What the Construction and trades industry covers

Section F of the Polish PKD classification splits construction into three divisions: construction of buildings (41), civil engineering such as roads, utility networks and bridges (42), and specialised construction work (43) – from demolition and electrical and plumbing installation to plastering, flooring and roofing.

Division 43 is by far the largest. It is made up of plumbers, electricians, tilers, roofers and renovation crews, the vast majority of them sole traders or firms with a handful of people. General contractors and road builders are an order of magnitude fewer, but they are the ones placing large orders.

The industry does not include manufacturers of building materials (manufacturing), builders’ merchants and wholesalers (trade) or designers, who have an industry of their own.

Number of companies and contacts

The REGON register lists 594,021 entities in this industry across Poland (GUS, as of 30 June 2026); the breakdown by voivodeship is in the table below. That is the size of the market, not the number of our records. Our own database (196,499 companies, as of 17 September 2026) is one of our sources and covers voivodeships unevenly, so the number of records for your selection is available on request – database status.

Classification

Scope by PKD 2007 and PKD 2025

The section letter and division numbers stayed the same, but the inside changed: developers (formerly 41.10.Z) moved to real estate, and division 43 gained the new groups 43.4, 43.5 and 43.6 (intermediation in specialised construction services). If you filter by the old code 41.10.Z, you will only get companies that have not yet updated their entry.

F 41.20.Z → F 41.00.A, B
Construction of buildings; PKD 2025 separates residential (A) and non-residential buildings (B).
F 41.10.Z → M 68.12.A, B, C
Development of building projects (property developers) – moved out of construction into real estate activities.
F 42 → F 42
Civil engineering: roads, railways, utility networks, bridges.
F 43.21.Z, 43.22.Z → F 43.21.Z, 43.22.Z
Electrical installation and plumbing, heating, gas and air-conditioning installation.
F 43.29.Z → F 43.23.Z, 43.24.Z
Other construction installation; insulation work has been split off into the new class 43.23.
F 43.91.Z → F 43.41.Z
Roof structures and roof covering – in PKD 2025 part of the new group 43.4. Note: in PKD 2025 the number 43.91 stands for masonry work.

Left code: PKD 2007, right: PKD 2025. Source: GUS, Polish Classification of Activities PKD 2025. The codes describe the scope of the industry – they are not a promise of a filter: today’s records mostly carry the source category, and a PKD code only where one is available. Whether you can select by a specific code is confirmed before you order. More: PKD 2025 and company lists.

A general contractor and a renovation crew share the same PKD division

A PKD code says nothing about size. A company building warehouses and a three-person crew putting up family houses have the same code for construction of buildings. If your offer is aimed at larger contractors, legal form (limited companies) and having a website are better filters than the code.

Tradespeople often give their home address rather than the site address. A selection by county therefore shows where the company is registered, not where it works – a crew from Radom may have been building in Warsaw for a year.

In this industry a phone number is more common than an email address, and it is usually the owner’s private mobile. That is personal data: the GDPR applies, and a sales call requires prior consent (Article 398 of the Polish Electronic Communications Law).

Sample enquiry

We are a plumbing and heating wholesaler from Piaseczno. We are looking for companies with codes 43.21.Z and 43.22.Z in the Piaseczno, Pruszków and Grodzisk Mazowiecki counties and in the southern districts of Warsaw. We want to send our catalogue and trade terms by post. Please let us know the number of records with a full address and the price.

This is a model enquiry, not a completed order. If you give us PKD codes, we will tell you how far they can be applied to our data – today the records mostly carry the source category.

What the export does not include

  • building licences and their specialisations
  • references or a list of completed projects
  • headcount and equipment owned
  • the region where the company actually carries out work
  • contract values and participation in tenders

Use of the data

Who usually buys this export

Ask about the export

Builders’ merchants and materials manufacturers

Builders’ merchants and makers of construction chemicals build a network of regular customers among contractors in nearby counties.

Equipment and formwork hire

A small crew does not buy an excavator or scaffolding – it hires them, and close to its base.

Safety equipment and workwear suppliers

Repeat sales that depend on the number of people on site; the list helps plan sales reps’ routes.

General contractors looking for subcontractors

The export also works the other way round: as an overview of installation and finishing firms in the region of an investment.

Public registers

Where to check a company in this industry

e-CRUB – central register of persons with building licences
Kept by the Chief Building Inspector (GUNB). Lets you check whether a site manager or designer holds a building licence and in which specialisation.
Polish Chamber of Civil Engineers (PIIB) – list of members
Membership of the chamber is required to perform independent technical functions in construction (Article 12(7) of the Polish Building Law).
CEIDG and KRS
Business status (active, suspended, deregistered), start date and PKD codes.

Questions

Construction and trades: questions about the export

Approximately, yes. In PKD, electrical installation has the code 43.21.Z, and plumbing, heating, gas and air-conditioning installation 43.22.Z, but small firms often register several codes at once. Our records today mostly carry the source category (“electrician”, “plumber”), so we select by that and use the PKD code where one is available.

Under PKD 2007 they are (41.10.Z); under PKD 2025 they are not – they belong to division 68. On our site you will find them under Real estate and property management.

PV installers have no PKD code of their own – their work falls under installation activities (group 43.2). They can only be singled out by name, category or business description, so such a selection is never complete.

Commercial information may be sent by email or phone only with the recipient’s prior consent (Article 398 of the Polish Electronic Communications Law; the provision does not distinguish between consumers and businesses) – the export does not include such consent. The data is meant for postal mail, preparing visits, CRM enrichment and market analysis. Details: B2B telemarketing and email in Poland after the change.
